4) Seattle Dancer – $13.1 million (1985)
There was some expectation of Seattle Dancer after his father Nijinsky was the winner of Britain’s Triple Crown in 1971 and part of the Northern Dancer family line. After being bought, the value continued to climb after going into competition for bids. There were some big wins at the Gallinule Stakes and the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial in 1987.
3) The Green Monkey – $16 million (2006)
After being bought by the team of Susan Magnier, Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor, this horse would eventually become a flop in only three races with the top result being a third place finisher. The horse would have to retire in 2008 after only earning about $5,000 in total winnings.
