Like so many female fighters, Tate’s interest began with her participation in wrestling when she was in high school. Her professional MMA career began in 2007, and two years later she won the Strikeforce Women’s Championship in the Bantamweight division. Tate has also won a silver medal in the Grappling Championship sponsored by FILA.

Fighting as a mixed martial artist in the Bantamweight division, Rousey is undefeated in her professional career. Within this division, she is both the Strikeforce and UFC Champion. As the result of her participation in the 2008 Summer Olympics, Rousey became the first woman ever to capture a medal in the sport of Judo.
