Real Versus Hollywood Portrayal of Historical Figures

Our lasting image of what famous historical figures look like often comes from a Hollywood movie rendition of them. Here is a glimpse of what 10 real historical figures look like, versus the Hollywood portrayal of them.

1. Xerxes I in “300”

Persian King Xerxes I was portrayed by Rodrigo Santoro in the movie “300”, and the buff, on screen version with multiple piercings, looks markedly different from his real life portrait. Perhaps the uncertain nature of this ruler – some historians described him as both weak and narrow-minded, others as arrogant and full of himself – is what gave the director free-reign to reinvent him.

2. Alexander the Great in “Alexander”

Colin Farrell provided a new take on Alexander III, the great Macedonian king known to most of us as simply Alexander the great.

3. Salvador Dali in “Little Ashes”
