Prison escapes have been portrayed in television and movies, but they are rarely successful in reality. It is often thought about by many prisoners once they are placed behind bars with the belief that the three daily meals and cot are not enough and are willing to risk their futures on getting out any way they can.
The following cases are the most impressive prison escapes of all time, rivaling the ones shown in popular films like the Shawshank Redemption.

10) Escape from Death Row at Mecklenburg Correctional Center

Six prisoners in Virginia were waiting for their execution in 1984 by way of electric chair and refused to go down without a fight. They studied the procedures by the guards and found some flaws. One hid in the guard’s bathroom and shot out on cue when doors were opened to overpower a guard. After collecting the keys, other convicts were set free and used a sheet to cover a television to portray a bomb to threaten other guards to let them walk. The escape was short lived as they were captured overtime and eventually executed.

9) Frank Abagnale

After getting out of prison, he was able to avoid law enforcement by using eight different aliases that included a doctor, lawyer and pilot. He was eventually caught in 1969 after an ex-girlfriend ratted him out in Sweden and was sent back to prison in the United States. But he was able to get out again from federal prison by being mistaken for an undercover inspector and guards were afraid of losing their jobs.
