1. The Junk Food Tax of Hungary

How ironic that a place named Hungary would put a tax on junk food, but it’s true! The ‘Chipsovy’ tax was enacted in 2011, and foods such as sweet and salty biscuits, cake, energy drinks, and even crisps carry a tax to purchase. This tax was meant to deter unhealthy eating.


2. The Grilling Out Tax of Belgium

In 2007 Wallonia passed a law mandating that taxpayers must pay for using their grills to cook outside. Why? To supposedly battle global warming by minimizing grill use since it is theorized that greenhouse gas is released into the air during the grilling process.
