3. Astroglide Lubricant
Fact: The Astroglide lubricant product was created to assist in cooling space shuttles.
Created in 1977 by Daniel Wray, this product was developed after an inspection of a space shuttle at Edwards Air Force Base. After offering the slick water-based formula to a friend as a gag, it became commonly-used by millions for, well, you know what.
4. Puma and Adidas
Fact: A disagreement between two brothers was the catalyst that launched the Puma brand of sportswear.
Flashback to Germany in World War II. Brothers Rudolf and Adi Dassler were crouched in an air-raid shelter, and they had not been getting along for a while as it was. After a snide comment made by one brother about the arrival of the other at the shelter, the former shoe and sports equipment salesmen ended up dividing up their company’s interests. The results can be observed to this day: One became Puma, and the other Adidas.
