Fact: Coca-Cola was created in response to Prohibition.
John Pemberton was a pharmacist who had created a beverage called ‘Pemberton’s French Wine Coca’. This was an American take-off of a medicine made from coca plant derivatives which was called ‘Vin Mariani’. It was an alcohol-based drink which claimed to cure a variety of ailments, including constipation, impotency, and even morphine addiction. When Prohibition banned the sales and consumption of alcoholic beverages, Pemberton changed up his recipe a bit, with the result being Coca-Cola.
Fact: Barbie is today’s result of a doll created to emulate a crude, dirty-minded comic strip character.
The doll originally was created to represent ‘Bild Lilli’, a comic character out of Germany who was overly-ambitious and centered her conversations on sex. Only after Mattel got the rights to the doll was she altered to be suited for young and pre-teen girls.
