Photographs which captures moments of true bravery can inspire decades after they are taken.
This photo taken in Charlotte, North Carolina in September of 1957 portrays the courage of Dorothy Counts – one of the first white students admitted to the all white Harry Harding High School.
After four days of relentless bullying by her classmates which went unnoticed by teachers and administrators, Dorothy withdrew from school. However, her bravery has not been forgotten.
Although racial segregation is no longer a reality in America, the fight for true equality rages on.
