12. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Although the soldier in this photograph appears to be smiling, he is really a victim of what has been commonly called “shell shock”.
It is likely that this photograph was taken in Normandy, during the allied counter-offensive.
The reality is that tens of millions of soldiers have been killed in the line of duty during the last century, and many who survived have been scarred by the mental trauma today referred to as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
